Chengdu(2N) – Dali(1N) – Lijiang(3N) – Shangri La(2N) – Kunming(3N)
For this year we have organised a special tour to Shangri La and Yunnan, the colourful and exotic South-Western province of China, featuring some of China’s most stunning scenery. Situated at an average 2000 metres above sea level on the Sichuan-Tibet plateau, Yunnan enjoys a temperate tropical plateau climate with an average temperature of 15c all year round (July 20c – 25c).
Bordering the countries of Myanmar, Vietnam, Laos and Tibet, it was a strategic place for the ancient tea route to the West.Kingdom of animals and Realm of plants”. Here are found more species of animals, plants, birds etc. in one place, than in any other region of the world.
No fewer than 26 of China’s ethnic minorities live here and have lived in Yunnan for centuries in peace and perfect harmony, each with their own unique lifestyles and colourful customs. Shangri La, formerly Zhongdian a Tibetan county in North West Yunnan was officially renamed Shangri La in 2001 after the fictional novel “Lost Horizon” by British writer James Hilton. Depicted in the novel as “heaven on earth and a paradise of eternal youth, isolated from the passing of time and the turmoil of the outside world”, it is indeed a paradise with its picturesque serene and elegant scenery, pleasant climate and happy friendly Tibetan people.
In Shangri La you will experience Tibetan culture and landscape without going to the higher altitude of Tibet.
With its snow capped mountains, dense rainforests, vast grasslands, deep gorges, lakes, rivers, blue skies, clear air, ancient towns and its colourful minority peoples, Yunnan & Shangri La will capture your heart.
We begin our tour in the historical and cultural city of Chengdu (2 nights). Our next stop is at the ancient Ming city of Dali (1 night). We continue to Lijiang city (3 nights) with its ancient towns and many ethnic minorities and then on to legendary Shangri La (2 nights) “land of eternal youth”. Lastly, we fly to Kunming “City of eternal Spring” with flowers blooming all year round.
Warning: When you come to Yunnan and Shangri La, you may not want to leave this magical place, you may even forget to go home!!
